Mobile World Capital Barcelona is an initiative driving the mobile and digital transformation of society while helping improve people’s lives globally.
With support of the public and private sector throughout Barcelona, Catalonia and Spain, MWCapital focuses on three areas: the empowerment of new generations, professionals and citizens in the use of digital technologies; the digital transformation of industries; and the acceleration of innovation through digital-based entrepreneurship.
MWCapital hosts the Mobile World Congress and delivers 4YearsFromNow [4YFN], a business platform for the startup community.
A cornerstone of Mobile World Capital Barcelona is the GSMA Mobile World Congress, the world’s biggest event of its kind, bringing to Barcelona the main mobile telecommunications industry companies and professionals. Barcelona has been hosting the event since 2006, for four days each year, transforming the city into the world’s premier mobile technology showcase.
At its last edition (2016) more than 100,000 professionals – including 4,500 business executives from industry companies around the world – learned about the latest innovations in mobile solutions, presented by more than 2,200 international exhibitors. 3,800 journalists and analysts from around the world covered the event, reporting on everything that happened across the event’s 94,000 m2, including exhibition and hospitality features.
In 2016 the congress’s impact on the local economy was estimated at 460 million euros and contributed to the creation of 13,000 jobs.
In 2016 the GSMA Mobile World Congress will be held from 27 February to 2 March at the Fira de Barcelona convention complex on the city’s Gran Via, along with 4 Years From Now, the parallel event for entrepreneurs, held at the Montjuïc facility.
